The Akalay are a rare species that can be found in all kinds of environments in the world of Aldenmore. While the majority of Aldenmore's population is made up of brute dragons called Zenkar, Akalay are rarely seen and usually always attract attention because of that. Most Akalay live secluded in small communitiesn hidden deep within nature. Only few venture out into big cities as this comes with many dangers for them.

ANATOMY
Akalay sprout a row of spikes down their back which can merge with their scaled tail. A Akalay’s head, tail as well as the spikes on one’s back are always of the same colour. Gradients of these respective colours might turn into patterns decorating their scales, although complex patterns are incredibly rare. Most of the time, they possess solely simple gradient, patterns and highlights. Akalay do come in all kinds of natural colours, however completely pure white or pure black Akalay have not been observed so far!
Overall, there are not many differences between male and female Akalay. The best way to quickly tell them apart is the dewclaw on their hindlegs which only males possess. A male’s size is usually about 2 meters, whereas females average out at around 1.6 meters. As both Akalay and Zenkar evolved from similar paths, they are both able to take on a demi-human form. In this form they turn human but keep their tail, ears, legs and hands the same as in their feral form. The extend to this hyprid form may vary from individual to individual.Shown here is the maximum and minimum sizes for Akalay compared to a human with average size.

Akalay can have many different traits, furtypes and additional coverages. Most of the time they posses short fur, however depending on the environments it is possible for them to grow they fur to medium or long length. This can be seen in the north of Aldenmore, as weather there is rough and cold all year around. Additionally to fur it is possible for them to be partially covered in scales and/or feathers. There is a wide range on possible combinations with the mix of fur, scales and feathers. It is important to note that their tail will always be fully scaled! The pattern of the scales can vary depending on where they live and what scale pattern their parents had. The same goes for the scales on their heads. While Akalay who live closer to the water might have a more aquatic tail, some who live on lands will have more or a sleeker tail.

Akalay can posses various magical powers! The most common one is the bending of elements [Light, Darkness, Water, Fire, Air, Earth]. The older the individual is the better they will be able to bend their own element. On rare occasions they are able to bend two elements. The rarest and most powerful of them all is the so called “Moon-Awakening“. A massive amount of power will turn parts of the body of the Akalay white surrounded by a glowing aura. The more powerful the individual is, the more of their body will turn white. It is highly dangerous to get near someone in that stage as they will turn highly aggressive. Only Akalay of the very first generation are able to use the full extent of the moons power! Generations who were born in a natural way through two parents can use about half of the power. This means they are only able to turn half of their body white. The parts of the body that turn white can vary from one individual to the other. While one might get a white tail another might get white paws.Due having a lot of aether in their body and flesh all Akalay posses a slight bioluminescence to them. This becomes stronger when they use their magics as the aether in their body gets activated. It can be seen in their eyes, mouth as well as open wounds or blood and their pawpads. The colour of the bioluminescence will be determined by the element they wield.
